September.. A month of celebration!

I love September. Just 2 days after celebrated lil missy's birthday and anniversary, we are on the road to more celebrations. My, MY birthday! ME!!! Okay, a bit of self-indulgence.

I get to do something different this year as I celebrated with my niece too. Our first. My niece is growing too fast. I still remember vividly how I brought her out.. and being young and not knowing much about parenting, I brought her to shopping complexes and eat all the fast food and ice-creams and... unhealthy stuff that I won't give to lil' missy yet. And nothing much learnt throughout the time spent except that we get to hang out with one another. I wonder if she was bored. As she started schooling with crazy pile of homework to finish, our weekends together became rare. And silence for years until this fateful Saturday! Nothing fanciful but the timing is so, so good.

I bought a cooking class session at a discount. Thanks to those group discounts thingy. And since the classes available then did not seem to spark my culinary interest, I signed both of us up for the adult and children session for a sushi making class! We both don't have an oven at home, so baking will be out if we want to continue having funpracticing our newly learnt art. I have not make any sushi after the class though but the time spent is worth it.

My shy niece..
Relunctantly smile for me
My niece's masterpiece
And here's mine
Work in progress from top view
Front view
Trying out the sushi roll. It takes skills!
And she did it! YAY!
Our creation.. went down to our tummy an hour later. Healthy!

And what we did right after the cooking class? We rush off back home to meet my hubby and lil' missy. I missed them of course but the main reason was to go to the horse carnival at Selangor Turf Club. But that will be in another post.

Ooh, in case you are interested to know about this cooking class thingy, check out this place. They have a different program every month. It's interesting though I personally feel it's a bit pricey. But very convenient and fun. No cleaning up after. No messy, messy kitchen and greasy floor. However, for my niece and me, it'll be at my kitchen next.

Finally, a post after a long hiatus.

A lil' bit better

It started  with a sore throat, then cough and then sniffy nose. And ,the whole package came and passed on abit to my hubby too. Since lil' missy sleeps in betwen us, I pray that she won't get it from us. We are getting slightly better and she has developed a slight cough. And when she coughs, we have to watch really intently to know if she is just imitating to get our attention or she is really, really coughing. Yeah, she is getting cheekier by the day. Hoping that we will just get well real soon enough!

Ooh, I am also getting a bit more skillful in my cooking skills. If this is the first post you are reading, I am a young (maybe, not so young anymore) working adult who just became a mommy. Since I am not local, renting a room with no cooking facility does not help much in my culinary skills for the past decade until I have a kitchen of my own. Anyways, my mom came and saw the ABC porridge I made for lil' missy. She commented that it was still too chunky for lil' missy. I chopped the carrot finely and diced the potato and mashed it before feeding her. I thought it's really time for lil' missy to be exposed to more chewy stuff. But lil' missy is just swallowing them in. Gulp. Well, oh well, at least now my cooking skill has improved. I now put a big chunk of the potato, pumpkin and carrot to boil with the pork. Then take them out and mash them before putting it in again. So much lesser work. No need to chop finely or diced. Peel, chop and then mash. Improving, improving.. and please don't laugh at me for my ignorance of these few simple step. I don't cook, remember?

Sleeping bag for babies

If not for the mushrooming online shops especially for babies, I wouldn't have bought a sleeping bag for a friend of mine whose baby girl is turning 1mo. We were invited to the a close friend's baby fullmoon thanksgiving party. Although I prefer to giving red packet than the hassle to think of the gifts and getting the gifts. You know, when you have a budget, or the fear that the gifts may clash with others and the list goes on (one of them, plain lazy!). I was adamant in getting them something. Reason, I remember the new daddy always insisted to get a gift rather than vouchers or $$$. And so I started shopping hunting for appropriate gifts since the new mommy hasn't had any wish list. They must be too excited in welcoming their new bundle of joy that they have ended buying all the stuff they need.

So, what did we get at the end? Sleeping bag and Baby Einsten's books. No toys as most people will give toys or diapers. I am so glad that I came across this website that offers reasonably priced and good quality items. Not to mention good service too. I sent the request on Tues, made payment on Wed and received my items on Thurs. And the party is on Sun! Need to bear in mind that courier companies only work half day on Sat for some or none at all for the others. Too risky to push the delivery leadtime to the max.

I bought lil' missy's from here too when I realized that she is going to outgrown her 0-6mo sleeping bag I bought from Mothercare. She has been using the 2-3yo size at 7-8mo. Sleeping bag is truly one of the must-haves for babies since they are good 'kicker'. No way the blanket will stay nicely covering them. Must be dreaming of kung fu fighting *wink*. If you are looking for more designs since this website has very limited choices as I don't think she carries a lot of stocks for each design for business sense, Mothercare and Ikea or baby stores have them. And those, you would have to drive out, look for parking and maybe have to consider the next meal for babies, in my case at least,  online shopping is convenient.

So, in case you are wondering what to buy for a freind's baby, you may want to consider sleeping bag.

The Value of Time

Read this before and when I was pregnant with my darling, I would say that I am a changed person. I value every seconds even much more now compare to the days when I was young and dangerous carefree. Or maybe, age is catching up. Darn. Anyways, here's the poem.

To realize the value of a sister/brother
ask someone who doesn't have one.
To realize the value of ten years:
ask a newly divorced couple.
To realize the value of four years:
ask a graduate.
To realize the value of one year:
ask a student who has failed a final exam.
To realize the value of nine months:
ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.
To realize the value of one month:
ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby..
To realize the value of one minute:
ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane.
To realize the value of one-second:
ask a person who has survived an accident.
Time waits for no one.
Treasure every moment you have.
