One more month..

My lil' missy is turning 1 in another month's time. Time flies!!!! I am thankful that she is growing well although still below percentile. She has finally increased her milk intake to 5oz except for the night feed. Well, it is still a progress than 3.5-4 oz on each feed. Though it is not a good measurement of her growth, but it is a great relieve than to see her being the same size of a 5.5mo baby. Arrgghhhh, the stress of fearing lil' missy is not catching up as she should be. Or maybe, we as parents have missed out something?

I will remind myself again and again that there is no manual on raising a healthy child. Every individual is different. Our heavenly Father does not copy and paste. Every child of His is unique.. So, trusting Him to take care of her. I'll do my part and He'll do the rest...

When goodbye is so hard to say

It's a struggle for us to leave our lil' missy to work every morning. With her pouty lips, watery eyes... and a slight cry.. sigh... Though I anticipated this day will come but to really experience that kind of expression from her, it is tough! Can't wait for the weekend to come so that I can spend as much time as possible. Can't wait for the day when I could cuddle her as much as I want and not letting her grow too fast. Time just stops. Of course, it means that I stop aging too. No chance eh? I can imagine how my parents felt when I walked down the aisle with my dad towards my hubby few years ago, and my mom watching us from the front. Time flies for them and it will be soon for me.

My hubby turned down an offer recently. Good money but he has to be stationed far away, a neighbouring country. He turned it down so that he won't misses any of our lil' missy's growth. It wasn't easy for him when lil' missy pushed him away when he was only away for a week! What more when he can't be back that often, maybe once a month. And since we are also planning for the 2nd one later, career advancement will have to be put on hold for at least 5 years. Though there are times I wished that I could stay at home 24,7 for my lil' missy, still, I am thankful that we both have stable incomes. With escalating expenses in education and whatever not, it is not easy to be on single income as we have far too many commitments and responsibilities.I hope that our children need not worry about education when they are older like we both had to.

So for now, we hope that lil' missy will grow to understand that we miss her as much as she does when we are at work. Her tears will soon be ours when she's all grown up, walking down the aisle to her future hubby and I, watching by the side and say, "that's my girl".

Pregnant? Do I really look like I am pregnant?!

With that question posted to me, I decided to wear a corset to work for the first time! The flabby tummy just won't go away. I wonder if I had diligently worn it after delivery, maybe the muscle would have been firmer compare to now, hanging loosely. Definitely cannot blame when my colleagues make that comment. But it's sad to hear that. Gosh, now I must really cut down a little on my snacking. I love to snack at work. It keeps me awake after heavy lunch. Oh please don't ask me to cut down on my lunch. Breakfast and lunch are the only time I eat a lot. My appetite will somehow shrunk when it's dinner. Maybe I need to munch to keep the stress level down. Then again, I don't earn big bucks to deserve all the stress I feel I am getting. Hmmm... Back to my fatty, bouncy tummy. Would it made a difference if I had engaged a traditional masseur to give me the 'urut'? Or if I had worn the 'bengkung'? Maybe the saying is right. There isn't any ugly women, just lazy. I do fall into that category - L.A.Z.Y unfortunately.

I still remember when I met a gorgeous mommy for the first time and I was wearing a green three quarter pants and a grey t-shirts. I only realized how horrible I looked at my own reflection when I stepped out of the car. Gasp! Too late as I didn't have anything to cover up myself. Talk about first impression. I have surely failed that. Maybe I should really be going for a more regular maintenance ie facial, get new make up stuff. I think I have not used my lipsticks for ages. Yeah, I should be a good samaritan and doll myself up a little so that I don't scare people off. Let's do a bit of community work here right? Actually, I don't think I would like myself to turn up to be an aunty so soon when I am only 28. Hehe, you know I am just kidding right?

Well, I should really be doing something to look presentable! And it is not just for vanity, but as a lady, woman. I should do something for myself. Now, how or where or what should I start...

Sleeping bag for babies

If not for the mushrooming online shops especially for babies, I wouldn't have bought a sleeping bag for a friend of mine whose baby girl is turning 1mo. We were invited to the a close friend's baby fullmoon thanksgiving party. Although I prefer to giving red packet than the hassle to think of the gifts and getting the gifts. You know, when you have a budget, or the fear that the gifts may clash with others and the list goes on (one of them, plain lazy!). I was adamant in getting them something. Reason, I remember the new daddy always insisted to get a gift rather than vouchers or $$$. And so I started shopping hunting for appropriate gifts since the new mommy hasn't had any wish list. They must be too excited in welcoming their new bundle of joy that they have ended buying all the stuff they need.

So, what did we get at the end? Sleeping bag and Baby Einsten's books. No toys as most people will give toys or diapers. I am so glad that I came across this website that offers reasonably priced and good quality items. Not to mention good service too. I sent the request on Tues, made payment on Wed and received my items on Thurs. And the party is on Sun! Need to bear in mind that courier companies only work half day on Sat for some or none at all for the others. Too risky to push the delivery leadtime to the max.

I bought lil' missy's from here too when I realized that she is going to outgrown her 0-6mo sleeping bag I bought from Mothercare. She has been using the 2-3yo size at 7-8mo. Sleeping bag is truly one of the must-haves for babies since they are good 'kicker'. No way the blanket will stay nicely covering them. Must be dreaming of kung fu fighting *wink*. If you are looking for more designs since this website has very limited choices as I don't think she carries a lot of stocks for each design for business sense, Mothercare and Ikea or baby stores have them. And those, you would have to drive out, look for parking and maybe have to consider the next meal for babies, in my case at least,  online shopping is convenient.

So, in case you are wondering what to buy for a freind's baby, you may want to consider sleeping bag.

She's the Princess

And we as parents are definitely not the queen and king! Who do you want to kid eh? As she grows, she learns how to express herself and maybe, a lil' bit more of tricks.

What tricks has she been up to lately? She is using our arms as her pillow! She used to roll and roll and roll on the bed before dozing off. And it's easier when she has our arms below her neck. And since I normally rush off to prepare her food for tomorrow when we reached home and also to shower, my hubby will look after her. Yup, it is at those moment when she learnt the new skill to coming down from the bed with her bum. And tonight, I purposely did not wake my hubby up (with his arms as lil' missy's pillow), in a slightly awkward position. *evil laughter* muahahaha. No, it is not for revenge or anything. Saja (just no reasons).

We are hoping our lil' missy will not turn to a demanding toddler. She has been an easy baby thus far except for stressing us out for not reaching the recommended height and weight. We met a 4mo baby BOY and he's almost the same size as my lil' missy! I stress boy here 'cos most people would just tell me "it's ok, boy is always bigger size or boy mar". Well, she's healthy and happy. Those are what matter most, right?

Shake, shake ya bum, bum

Lil' missy now 'dances' to the tune of music. It's definitely a cute sight! When some nice musics ie twinkle, twinkle little star or during praise and worships in church, she would shake her bum or maybe jumping up and down... My party girl! Hope that she won't grow too wild like me ;p Be good yea, lil' missy when you reach your teens. And I must be diligent to pray and intercede for you even now!

Down with her bum

What do you think hubbies do when you leave them with your baby? Well, mine has successfully taught her to get down from the bed with her leg first and not head. Unlike the past, lil' missy doesn't know the depth, meaning all seems flat and same level to her be it she's on the bed or few stories high. I told my hubby that it's important to teach lil' missy to get down with her bottom first and not head, else, what if both of us accidentally (which should not have happenned in the first place!) left her alone? That will be her survival skill!!

When my lil' missy showed me her new skills, I can't help but to feel a tinge of sadness and of course proud. Both for the same reason. She has grown! Sigh.. what do we parents actually want? One side, doesn't want them to grow too fast and another side, can't wait for them to grow out and get our lives back. Our lives changed and there is no way we can get our lives back for we are truly grateful and thankful for this lil' missy.. soon to be a lil' monkey. And she's only 10mo, yet to hit the terrible 2's.

A day when I hope I am single again

No. My hubby has been real good and so is my lil' missy. They are my gems. Really! Whatever decisions I made now, they are no longer about me, myself and I. I need to include them as well, the love of my life. I wouldn't want any of my foolish decisions to hurt them in any ways.

9th July, a day to remember for my nation. History in the making and I would have been there to be with my fellow Malaysians at the rally if I am single. It was a sad day for our nation, but at the same time, a day that we, as Malaysians should be proud of. It is not so much of fighting against the government, but the spirit of all races to come together to hold and believe what is right and just. And I am thankful for the Malaysians who went for the rally to stand firm despite the many obstacles and risks they had to face. It may not be for themselves or me but for our next generations...

I grieve for my country and truly pray that His hands will be upon this land. Heal our land, oh God!

Rice porridge for the first time

Lil' Missy finally had rice porridge for lunch and dinner today and she's now 10mo. I have been giving her oats instead of rice since 6mo. But today, she gets to have the whole thing freshly made for her. No more frozen pureed vege.. Then again, I don't freeze cooked food for since a month ago except for potato and carrot which take longer time to soften. Chinese has this belief that all frozen cooked or overnight food has 'wind'. Don't ask me what or how it can happen. I can't explain and don't really follow as I have been giving her pureed food when she started taking solids. She is still a happy child with nice poo-poo and wee-wee. So, her first rice porridge has quinoa, potato, tomato and salmon. It's like abc soup right? I tasted it and liked it. Better with black pepper and a bit of salt, hehe. Anyways, I have to finish the extras since I cooked too much - 3 spoons* of brown and ... (can't remember) rice, 1/4 spoon of quinoa, 1 each of potato and tomato, and finally a small chunk of salmon. All these for her lunch and dinner. Too, too much!

Lil' Missy has been a snacker but to drink lesser milk has us worried. I thought as a child grows, so is his intake be it solids or milk. And so, our Lil' Missy has been drinking 1oz lesser instead of increasing her milk intake for the past few days.

Oh yea, just remembered. Back to the porridge.. rather salmon or fish. I have learnt to flake the fish with fingers and not fork to take the bones out. Well, maybe I have not been doing my job well. We found bones in the porridge a few times. A friend shared with me to sieve their food. But I rather not to have too much handling with the food since it will be my maid who will be preparing the rest when I am at work. I have reservation to the state of cleanliness. Well, thank God that nothing has happened to Lil' Missy!

note: spoon = chinese soup spoon

Mozzie attack

Poor darling.. attacked mercilessly by those blood suckers. And only then we put Buds - Mozzie Clear Lotion to put off the mozzie. Though it says to be organic, but minimal chemical is good right? But compare to the potential of dengue, then I rather put it on her. Read somewhere that this is efficient and I truly agree as there was no more red spots. Ooh, to soothen the redness, we applied the e.excel gwei hwa balm. And that is another amazing balm. Of course I rather hope that we are the ones being attacked than her. She has sweeter blood than us. Sigh..

Colouring in Salmon?

Is there such a thing? Putting colours into salmon so that it has the orange colour for freshness appearance?

Does it look like curry oil? But that's the plastic bag that contained the salmon we bought.. Is it normal for the water to turn so orange?

With the news of so many fake food around, can't help but to be a bit cautious. Moreover, the salmon is not for us. It's for our darling!

Things to bring when you are out with a baby

Food! Snacks.. healthy snacks of course. So, the usual snacks would be teething biscuit, cheese and fruits. Teething biscuits can last for a long time. And teething biscuit is the the last resort after finishing a slice of cheese or some baby biscuits. I wonder if baby will ever say no to food. Maybe, there is - fussy baby. Then, I am glad that my missy is not.

Anyway, here's a picture of her with dragon fruit seed on her face. I wonder if she likes to have a mole on her face. I have one, tiny one above the lips like Cindy Crawford. But I am in no way as hot as her. Hehe..

Now, back to my missy. Isn't she cute?

My girl, my missy.. my love.

Oh, what are the things do we bring along whenever we are out with her?
1. Extra diaper
2. Wet wipes & tissue
3. Nappy cream
4. Mozzie bite cream
5. Mozzie repellent
6. Napkin - great use as a blanket or cover if there's rain
7. Cap
8. Extra sets of clothes - both long and short sleeves
9. Toys / Books
10. Milk powder (in milk dispenser)
11. 2 milk bottle filled with water (1 is enough, but I am a kiasi mom.. so just in case)

Have I missed out anything? I guess that should be it. Ooh, if you noticed, I don't bring hot water. Why? Malaysia is a food haven with lots of kind souls despite the rising crime rate. It's easy to find any reputable restaurants or cafes ie Starbucks, Coffee Bean or mother infant room etc.. Just ask for hot water. Well, I learnt this from other moms. Since we eat out most of the time when we are outside, this is truly a good tips for us. Less one thing to carry.

It takes 2 to.. tango?

Maybe. But TWO is the main word here for sure..

That's the amount of time we took to put her to sleep tonight. She somehow conked out at 11-ish. Where did she find the energy to stay awake for so many hours when she has less than 2 hours of afternoon nap the whole day? Can someone please tell me? Ooh, and it took both of us to put her to sleep. That's another two. Can't imagine when we both have to deal with the terrible two's later.. And, we have only one precious child... Or when we have the second one... With all the twos to think of, let's get back to the basic. Let's take one step at a time and savour every moment with her.

'Lo Mai Chi'

The picture definitely does not do justice to the SUPER yummylicious lo-mai-chi! I only remembered to take a picture of it after had a big bite of it. Just imagine that I have not had one for decades! I stopped eating after the quality has dropped overall. The skin is too thick and by the time my teeth sunk into the fillings, my mouth is full of the glutinous rice. And when my hubby managed to find this in Puchong, I am asking for more! Though it is slightly more expensive than the usual ones, but I rather spend a bit more for a quality one. Not just for the glutinous rice and tiny bit of the fillings. Just looking of the pictures making me salivate. Can't wait for my hubby to get me the next one.. slurp!
