No. My hubby has been real good and so is my lil' missy. They are my gems. Really! Whatever decisions I made now, they are no longer about me, myself and I. I need to include them as well, the love of my life. I wouldn't want any of my foolish decisions to hurt them in any ways.
9th July, a day to remember for my nation. History in the making and I would have been there to be with my fellow Malaysians at the rally if I am single. It was a sad day for our nation, but at the same time, a day that we, as Malaysians should be proud of. It is not so much of fighting against the government, but the spirit of all races to come together to hold and believe what is right and just. And I am thankful for the Malaysians who went for the rally to stand firm despite the many obstacles and risks they had to face. It may not be for themselves or me but for our next generations...
I grieve for my country and truly pray that His hands will be upon this land. Heal our land, oh God!

Rice porridge for the first time
Lil' Missy finally had rice porridge for lunch and dinner today and she's now 10mo. I have been giving her oats instead of rice since 6mo. But today, she gets to have the whole thing freshly made for her. No more frozen pureed vege.. Then again, I don't freeze cooked food for since a month ago except for potato and carrot which take longer time to soften. Chinese has this belief that all frozen cooked or overnight food has 'wind'. Don't ask me what or how it can happen. I can't explain and don't really follow as I have been giving her pureed food when she started taking solids. She is still a happy child with nice poo-poo and wee-wee. So, her first rice porridge has quinoa, potato, tomato and salmon. It's like abc soup right? I tasted it and liked it. Better with black pepper and a bit of salt, hehe. Anyways, I have to finish the extras since I cooked too much - 3 spoons* of brown and ... (can't remember) rice, 1/4 spoon of quinoa, 1 each of potato and tomato, and finally a small chunk of salmon. All these for her lunch and dinner. Too, too much!
Lil' Missy has been a snacker but to drink lesser milk has us worried. I thought as a child grows, so is his intake be it solids or milk. And so, our Lil' Missy has been drinking 1oz lesser instead of increasing her milk intake for the past few days.
Oh yea, just remembered. Back to the porridge.. rather salmon or fish. I have learnt to flake the fish with fingers and not fork to take the bones out. Well, maybe I have not been doing my job well. We found bones in the porridge a few times. A friend shared with me to sieve their food. But I rather not to have too much handling with the food since it will be my maid who will be preparing the rest when I am at work. I have reservation to the state of cleanliness. Well, thank God that nothing has happened to Lil' Missy!
note: spoon = chinese soup spoon

Mozzie attack
Poor darling.. attacked mercilessly by those blood suckers. And only then we put Buds - Mozzie Clear Lotion to put off the mozzie. Though it says to be organic, but minimal chemical is good right? But compare to the potential of dengue, then I rather put it on her. Read somewhere that this is efficient and I truly agree as there was no more red spots. Ooh, to soothen the redness, we applied the e.excel gwei hwa balm. And that is another amazing balm. Of course I rather hope that we are the ones being attacked than her. She has sweeter blood than us. Sigh..
Colouring in Salmon?
Is there such a thing? Putting colours into salmon so that it has the orange colour for freshness appearance?
Does it look like curry oil? But that's the plastic bag that contained the salmon we bought.. Is it normal for the water to turn so orange?
With the news of so many fake food around, can't help but to be a bit cautious. Moreover, the salmon is not for us. It's for our darling!

Things to bring when you are out with a baby
Food! Snacks.. healthy snacks of course. So, the usual snacks would be teething biscuit, cheese and fruits. Teething biscuits can last for a long time. And teething biscuit is the the last resort after finishing a slice of cheese or some baby biscuits. I wonder if baby will ever say no to food. Maybe, there is - fussy baby. Then, I am glad that my missy is not.
Anyway, here's a picture of her with dragon fruit seed on her face. I wonder if she likes to have a mole on her face. I have one, tiny one above the lips like Cindy Crawford. But I am in no way as hot as her. Hehe..
Now, back to my missy. Isn't she cute?
My girl, my missy.. my love.
Oh, what are the things do we bring along whenever we are out with her?
1. Extra diaper
2. Wet wipes & tissue
3. Nappy cream
4. Mozzie bite cream
5. Mozzie repellent
6. Napkin - great use as a blanket or cover if there's rain
7. Cap
8. Extra sets of clothes - both long and short sleeves
9. Toys / Books
10. Milk powder (in milk dispenser)
11. 2 milk bottle filled with water (1 is enough, but I am a kiasi mom.. so just in case)
Have I missed out anything? I guess that should be it. Ooh, if you noticed, I don't bring hot water. Why? Malaysia is a food haven with lots of kind soulsdespite the rising crime rate. It's easy to find any reputable restaurants or cafes ie Starbucks, Coffee Bean or mother infant room etc.. Just ask for hot water. Well, I learnt this from other moms. Since we eat out most of the time when we are outside, this is truly a good tips for us. Less one thing to carry.

It takes 2 to.. tango?
Maybe. But TWO is the main word here for sure..
That's the amount of time we took to put her to sleep tonight. She somehow conked out at 11-ish. Where did she find the energy to stay awake for so many hours when she has less than 2 hours of afternoon nap the whole day? Can someone please tell me? Ooh, and it took both of us to put her to sleep. That's another two. Can't imagine when we both have to deal with the terrible two's later.. And, we have only one precious child... Or when we have the second one... With all the twos to think of, let's get back to the basic. Let's take one step at a time and savour every moment with her.

'Lo Mai Chi'
The picture definitely does not do justice to the SUPER yummylicious lo-mai-chi! I only remembered to take a picture of it after had a big bite of it. Just imagine that I have not had one for decades! I stopped eating after the quality has dropped overall. The skin is too thick and by the time my teeth sunk into the fillings, my mouth is full of the glutinous rice. And when my hubby managed to find this in Puchong, I am asking for more! Though it is slightly more expensive than the usual ones, but I rather spend a bit more for a quality one. Not just for the glutinous rice and tiny bit of the fillings. Just looking of the pictures making me salivate. Can't wait for my hubby to get me the next one.. slurp!

Fried onion.. and garlic
Here are pictures of oats porridge I prepared for her. Looks like abc porridge right? It has carrots, spinach, fish and fried onions and of course rolled oats. I love fried onions and can't resist to put one or two ring into it. I would have gobbled the whole bowl of the fried onion if given the chance.
And since I love garlic too, I have also fed her few times with tiny bit of raw garlic. I would have thought that she would reject them. But she opened her mouth asking for more. So, I put a tiny pinch of chopped garlic into her porridge now when there's vege. Sounds yucky? But I tried them myself and they are yummy. Well, babies have clean palate right? So, let them get used to the taste... Or, maybe it's in her genes to liking garlic and fried onion.

A short bliss of moments
Nowadays, she is able to self-entertain herself. Giving us some breather. It is of course I don't mean that she's burdensome. She's a gift. Just that there are times we missed those us-me-time. I hope that it will be like picture below and not giving me a heart attack by climbing up the stairs! I went up to the room for a short while to text my hubby and to answer nature's call. When I went down.. OH MY, she's already 4 steps up! Thank God that she didn't fall. My bad for leaving her alone unsupervised. I can't imagine what would've happened. Maybe we should get a 2nd safety gate (we had one in her room). Well, we will definitely be more vigilant since she is much more mobile than we thought of. She really amazes us at times.
Oooh, here's a good article about instilling reading to children:

It melts our hearts when...
...she kisses us first thing in the morning.
And that's what happened 2 days ago. Not sure if she was still in the daze as she went back to sleep after kissing both of us. She sure knows how to capture our hearts.
Or...
Seeing her smiles in her sleep. Life must have been good to dream good smiley dreams, right?

A new attempt in the kitchen
I rarely cook as I mentioned in my earlier post and not to mention baking and ice cream making! Even my mom was hesitant to try my new attempt. Came across this blog, and tried the Berrylicious Yogurt Ice Cream. I can't resist to announce my first attempt making ice-cream as the author of the blog has really good recipes for new beginners like me. Good things must be shared, right?
How was it? Well, my bro says it's not bad but I didn't pureed smooth enough. My mom, forgot to ask for her comment since she knew the reason I made it. You see, my mom came to take care of my child when my hubby is away, my bro came to bring my mom to his place and my hubby is returning on the same night. There are more people around with more mouths to try than just my hubby just in case it didn't turn out well. Wrong choice for the first time though as I don't take yogurt. So, I didn't try it. And my hubby?? Definitely not encouraging at all? But did it stop me from trying? I don't think so as I want to brush up skills for my child(ren). I need to learn right from somewhere right? Ok, next!

30 minutes
Babies sure have a lot of perseverance. At least mine do. We have not really been discipline enough to let her sit in her car seat all the time. My hubby is normally the chauffeur and we, baby and I will sit at the back. I would usually plonk her to the car seat, BUT when she cries, I will carry her. And it will be up down up down. Reason, not to distract my dear hubby when he drives. Well, it is entirely the adults' fault for not being determined enough to let her sit through in all journey. And so, when I put her to the seat half way through the journey home today, it is very much expected for her to cry. And boy, she can really CRY! With tears and out of breath and all.. Heartbreaking but we know we need to make a stand for her safety. I wonder if there are any other parents who do the same as we do.. Feeling rather bad now. Bleh.

A week without hubby
I wouldn't be any easier if not for my mom who agreed to come down to look after our darling. I prefer such arrangement than the usual arrangement. And since my mom can make it, why not seize the opportunity! Thank God for my mom and a friend who stays few houses away.
Well, I of course would bring her to our room and to sleep with us. And I asked my mom to sleep with us too. For safety reason and also for comfort. Our room is the only room that has air-conditioner. Darling seems to be oblivious to the disappearance of her daddy after a few nights. Maybe it has been me who put her to sleep, accompany her until she dozes off. And so, when my hubby came back few days ago... She stared and stared at him! She pushed him away after a while!! Ouch! I feel for my hubby. So heartbreaking! What a short memory babies have! Darling, do you know that daddy was so sad when you pushed him away?
And today, when we brought her to her room, she cried! And we haven't even closed the safety gate. I thought she has short memory. No? She has selected memories! Well, of course we didn't put her in her room. We want her to get familiarize with her room again first before dumping having her sleep in her room. Meanwhile, I will continue to be her bolster, pillow and willingly to be one too.

Best confinement lady ever
I am thankful that I had the best CL after delivering my first child. Not only is she the best babysitter, she's the best CL ever! I've always known that she's one sought after babysitter. The children that she babysat will always come back during school holidays or festivals just to hang out at her place. And the mothers will always have good comments about her. I remember about a mom who mentioned that her second son could not get use to eating at home after she stopped sending him to the babysitter. Reason being, she doesn't eat brown rice or multi grain rice. And, she doesn't boil much soup too. This babysitter is not stingy at all. Generous with whatever nutritious meals she prepared for her own family. And this babysitter invited the parents of the first child she took care for her son's and daughters' weddings. If a person is not good, do you think others would continue to keep in touch?
And when I had her as my CL, she would at least tried her best to do away the Chinese beliefs. Especially ginger in all dishes. I've asked her to reduce the portion for at least 2 weeks as I was still breastfeeding and my darling was having a slight jaundice. She obliged after a few reminders as she was also worried of my health. Got to be patient with old people especially in doing away their beliefs and hence a few reminders.. And, chicken and pork seems to be a must in all meals during confinement. I asked for more vege instead as I prefer vege to meat. And she painstakingly thought of all the different style of cooking. And of all the different dishes, I love the stir-fry kale with ginger wine and lemongrass chicken chop. No pork for me though as I just had too much meat.
And when I am old, I don't mind to be like her. Confinement lady to my daughter and babysitter to my grand-daughter. It's tough and tiring to be one especially when one is old, but it brings back the sweet memories and bond of a mother-daughter. Thanks Mom!

Bachelorette party
Congratulations to a dear friend of mine who is getting married soon! And it was also the first time I am away alone at night with my girlfriends. ALONE! Well, it's a big deal to me as I have not been out since the birth of my darling. And well done to my hubby too for taking care of my darling whilst I was away. My darling was sound asleep when I was back. Bliss *all smiles*
And back to the topic, what do you normally do in a hens night/bachelorette party? Wine, dine and dance? Follow suit with games.. Laughter and fun at the expense of the bride-to-be? If I can turn back time, I rather have a simple, cosy and tight dinner with a few close friends. Hmmm, come to think of it, I did except for the games that came after. Challenging and pretty dangerous too... Then again, kudos to the organisers and am thankful for these friends. They make time for me, and that matters most. Ok, back to the hens night. It brought back memories and I surely enjoyed the time. Wish it was longer since it's so hard to catch up with everyone. It's a simple hens night where we had simple pot-bless (each bring a portion of food for everyone to share), some wine although I don't drink (forgotten that I was still breastfeeding!) and some questions for the bride-to-be. It will be awesome if we spend a night at her place just to catch up. But, but.. somehow, it's tough now being a mom. I have separation anxiety!
From the way I describe the hens night, it seems boring eh? Well, I just like to look at pictures of other hens night with all the crazy games. If it's my own or those I'm attending, I like it simple and intimate. Do you feel the same too? Or maybe it's just the boring me... Hmmm...

The Value of Time
Read this before and when I was pregnant with my darling, I would say that I am a changed person. I value every seconds even much more now compare to the days when I was young and dangerous carefree. Or maybe, age is catching up. Darn. Anyways, here's the poem.
To realize the value of a sister/brother
ask someone who doesn't have one.
To realize the value of ten years:
ask a newly divorced couple.
To realize the value of four years:
ask a graduate.
To realize the value of one year:
ask a student who has failed a final exam.
To realize the value of nine months:
ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.
To realize the value of one month:
ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby..
To realize the value of one minute:
ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane.
To realize the value of one-second:
ask a person who has survived an accident.
Time waits for no one.
Treasure every moment you have.

Imprisonment!
Hehe, that's my darling looking out to our room from her room. You see, we don't really co-sleep with her except on weekends and nights when I want to catch up on my zzz, rather than walking up and down to her room few times. we can't bear to hear her cry or rather, we have not really practice ferberizing. We will bring her to our room when she wakes up in the dawn for her morning feed. And tonight, as usual in her room, she will crawl up and down, up and down, and maybe bring herself to stand up by pulling the bar of the safety gate and then maybe cry hoping that we will bring her to our room. And, that's her figuring (maybe) how to get outta here! In case you want to know, it takes me at least half an hour to put her to sleep. The easiest is to feed her with milk.. though this is not recommended. Sigh, I got another issue to deal with later. Will think of that later once I figure out how to put her to sleep without much challenge!
Note to darling: Mommy has been your bolster since you are born for the past 9 months, be it in our room or your own. I don't mind to be your bolster until the day you found one to last a lifetime. Love you heaps!
Her diet...
Just want to jot down some of the recipes that I tried on her.. wonder what will she says when she's older. Muahaha!
Oats (1oz) + Baked Salmon (1oz with orange juice, cheese and butter) + Carrot/Sweet Potato puree
Pasta (1 oz, Heinz) + Cheese + Milk
Sweet/White Potato/Carrot/Pumpkin (1 or 2oz) + Spinach/Broccoli/Asparagus/Tofu (1oz) + Fish/Powdered Anchovies + Cheese + Yogurt
Ooh, I put wolfberries to the spinach for added nutrition. And haven't feed her any meat except for pork stock once with oats as I worry her digestion is not fully developed in her small frame. Well, few more weeks and I will try a new recipe. Maybe mushroom and chicken with cheese. And somehow, somewhere will have to fit in egg yolk for the high protein. Shell fish will have to wait until she's 1yo since there's history of allergy in the family tree. And looking at the above, I wonder if she's bored with the food I am feeding her. Doesn't look like there's a lot of varieties. Well, she'll survive!

I'm a chef!
To my girl that is. There is no way any adults would want to try my cooking. Yes, I can't cook except for simple dishes ie garlic stir-fry vege, fried egg, steam tofu, rice and of course, instant noodle. It's hard to find time to hone my cooking skills and expensive to try out just for 2 adults. And when there are family members around, I'll shy away and rather eat out than to cook up few dishes. Hard work!
Ever since my darling is on solids, I practice the western style of pureed food and a mixture of chinese style - porridge. Instead of rice, I use oats. Healthier I feel. Haven't done any in-depth research on the nutrition between oats and rice. Nonetheless here are some of the food I feed my darling. Babies have clean palate and I am more than glad to cook for her. Definitely no complaint! *smiles*
When she's between 6-8mo, it's avocado, apple which took quite some time for her to like it, pear, sweet potatoes puree, Nestle Cerelac rice cereal, asparagus, broccoli, spinach puree. I also blended baked anchovies to powder form so that I can mix into any of the puree or rice cereal when she's close to 8mo. I've blended oats for her too so that it's easier for her to swallow.
And now at 9mo, I no longer blend the oats. Since I tried the oats myself, it's pretty easy to swallow. And, she too is ok with it. So there is no need to blend them anymore. I now mash the potatoes, chop the broccoli, flake the fish, maybe still blend the spinach a bit smoother... haven't tried that yet. Oooh, and when our paed asked us to feed her food with high protein ie cheese, full-fat yogurt and fish, we give her cheese as snacks and finger food albeit a messy one. Any particular brand that it's good for baby? I don't take cheese and so, can't comment. I hope my darling will not take after me in terms of food. Else, there'll be lotsa stuff she won't take and this will definitely stress both of us up as she is already below percentile in height, weight and hc. Only comfort is that she's a cheerful baby and has been an easy one.
Well, I can't ask for more when He has been so good to us. Thank God really!

New Hubby!

Please stay away from my baby!
It's flattering when you want to hug my baby. It's even more flattering when you say she is so adorable and wanting to give her a smooch. But wait! You are all dolled up! My baby still sucks her thumbs, licks on almost every surface and floor even! She rubs her face al lthe time especially when she is sleepy.Your nicely painted face, pouting lips, manicured fingernails.... errrm, my baby does not need extra supplements from you, my friend or rather stranger.
How do you tell them off nicely that I do not want my baby to have extra chemicals laced onto her hands and face? My baby is only 8mo and I am just starting to loosen up with lesser need to sterilize bottles on a regular basis. If they are my friends, I can just tell them straight to the face and they know that I still love them. But to a well meaning stranger? They may think I am cocky. I am fine with that, but I need to 'jaga' the feelings of those close to me....
Oh I forgot there's other cases too. When your children who loves baby is sick and flu-ish, please, please refrain them from coming near to my baby or any baby if at all. Sigh... Am I too paranoid?

Durian, we love it!
Durian, the king of fruits! It's one of the best creation. Nothing can ever beat the creamy flesh that melts in your mouth, pungent bitter-sweet taste... yummy-licious!! And my girl loves it! Wheee, it makes us a happy family. *blink*blink*
We both loves durian. I have no issue settling durian for lunch, dinner and snacks time although it's known to be heaty. And I had some during pregnancy too. I have bad appetite during my first 4.5mths, and I couldn't resist the tempation of durian though some say that it causes skin problem to the baby. I have no idea if that could be the reason my darling has sensitive skin. Or maybe it's in the genes.. I have slight sensitive skin too *grin*
Today, my hubby let her taste the durian. Of course we dare not give her the flesh. She's only 8.5mo and starting to have slight texture to her solids. What if she chokes on it? Hehehe, or maybe I am paranoid. But let's not take the risk. Oooh, back to my darling. It's not the first time she tried it but today, she has more than the first. We thought maybe she would reject it just like how she rejected apple! But no. She wanted more! She was clinging on my hubby like a hungry dog waiting at the table for crumbs. Ok, maybe not a nice way to describe my darling with a dog. Her expression was so adorable.. It's harder to take picture of her now since she can't be still for a minute. New found freedom with her improved crawling skills.
Well, it will be nice to fight over durian when she's older. At the moment, she just have to bear with my amateur cooking skills.

Surviving Breastfeeding!
No one share much about breastfeeding during my pregnancy. Most of the times, it was always about eating healthily, the progress of my term etc. No one, no one has actually told me the new challenge that awaits me after delivery. It is not just about sleepless nights in meeting the demands of a newborn as a new mommy. It is the challenge to have enough supply for my baby!
I went online during my confinement just to check on websites about breastfeeding, talk to lots and lots of friends who have been successful in breastfeed. I still remember the miserable 10ml after each express in the first few weeks. I took comfort that my body is now producing for local demands, so don't expect mass production for export market. Some economic terms used in my pre-natal class. But it did not help further when my baby was introduced to formula, some more a special one for pre-mature baby as my darling was born slightly underweight. So, the stress was always there to feed her formula... Then, on 2nd week I decided to just let her latch on directly to boost the supply. It was not an easy decision either. Thankfully, I have supportive mom (though she has no experience in breastfeeding, not a choice for her time though) and my hubby...
And my darling is now 8 mo. My dilemma is whether I should stop or not. Before pregnant, I wanted to breastfeed for a year. And when I delivered, I thought 9 months should be good, then 6 months when I find breastfeeding is not as easy as it seems and then to 3 months to as long as I have the supply. My supply from 10ml from each time to 4 oz lasted through till now. Should I stop? Or should I continue? I have slowed down a lot and she's now on 50-50 formula and bm. Sigh, human (or maybe just me) is so weird right? Worry no matter which situation we are at. LOL!
Some good reads on breastfeeding:

Wheee... She's teething!
After months of anticipation, we can finally feel the 2 front bottom teeth on her gum! Her gums has been swollen for so long and I didn't know that it can be so long for it to finally show up. And just today, I can see her first white cap. Happy =)
Ooh...decision, decisions. Do I change her solids to more texture? Our cheeky darling is very good at rejecting food. If we push it to her a lil' bit more, she will cough as if throw up. And her hands coordination is good too. She will push away the spoon or bottle. Stress when she is underweight. She is one baby who won't cry for milk! There were times that when we are out, she will skip at least one feed. Both of us, my hubby and I love food. Looks like she hasn't take it from us yet.
Breastfeeding. I wanted to wean her when she hits 6mo. Somehow, I managed to continue thus far. Supply has dropped definitely and I am lazy to push for it either. A lot of my friends advise me to continue as mama-lac is the best. True but, but..It's not easy when we have work that is quite demanding. Taking time off to express in the past has been by God's grace and favour.. Well, we shall see. Since pd has advised us to give her unhealthy diet (to adults), maybe we just.. .. Sigh. Don't know what to say. Maybe, I am a lazy mom afterall.
I love the teethers below and one of it is used by my darling. using the ads to add colours to my post =)s

Happy Mothers' Day
Another first's for us. MY first mothers' day where I am very much part of it. But then, when your child is sick, all you want is for your child to be healthy.
It's nice to be appreciated by my other half, and it would be even better if everyone is healthy to celebrate. And it's on these few days, we just monitor her temperature closely and glad that she is pink in health after all. That would be the best gift for any moms. Don't you think? Taking a deep breathe of relief

"I am not too happy"
Those were the words said by the paed when we see him this morning. We are asked to see him again when darling hits 9mo when others only need to see him for jab when they are 1 year old. For a note, darling was underweight, 200gm less than the acceptable weight of 2.5kg. Nonetheless, paed wants to see us to check on her growth. We brought forth the appointment when darling has fever. Is 38.4 consider high? She sure stressed both of us out since she has not really been so sick since birth. Thinking it was the weather, but it's rare for her to fall asleep without much fuss in the car... something is not right. We have never feel her so warm before. We rushed to the clinic of course. To cut the story short, we took EL (it's definitely not how a long weekend should be) and see the paed the next day.
But when he saw the measurement, he said those words! Darn.. when you hope to hear some comforting words for the 38.4 high temperature, you get another bad news. Well, looks like we got to boost her diet with butter, cheese, yoghurt and anything with high protein.
Note: Her temperature has gone down after we managed to feed the medicine to her, by mixing with milk. We have tried other means we can think of and she even cries without opening her mouth! Well, at last we found a way. It's painful to see her having fever but more painful when she threw up all (ALL!), whatever that is left in her small tummy when we fed her medicine. Can't wait for her to be fully well so that I can try new recipes for her. Gambate Darling!

Labour Day and I am WORKING!
ingBut then, it's the same to all MOMs out there, hehe. I guess it's a different way of celebrating any available public holidays doting our little ones. I am glad that the much awaited long weekends were finally here. Stayed at home, spending time with my darling.. unlike my past with long list of activities :P Can't wait for another holidays long weekends.
Ooh, why do I say that I am working? I am her cook (preparing her solids), her cleaner (cleaning after her poo poo and wee wee), her entertainer, her play mate, her slave. And I am a willing slave.. I am thankful for every moments we have with each other. Can't imagine the day when she will walk down the aisle in the arms of her father to the arms of... ... Nah, don't want to think too far.
